Philadelphia Museum of Art, Gee's Bend Edition
The quilts created by the women of Gee's Bend, Alabama are among the most recognizable and beloved pieces of American Art worldwide. Integral to the cultural and historical identity of African American communities in the south, the women of Gee's Bend crafted quilts to provide warmth for themselves and their children. In the process, the developed a distinctive style renowned for its vibrant improvisations and geometric simplicity. This collaboration includes digitally reproduced artwork of five quilts from the Philadelphia Museum of Art's esteemed collection which were acquired by the museum in 2017 through the Souls Grown Deep Foundation.
